A Joliet cyclist who calls himself "One Leg Greg" hopes to represent the US in the Paralympic Games next year in London.
34-year-old Greg Beene lost his leg in a motorcycle accident in 2003. After the devastating accident, he worked tirelessly to learn how to live (and thrive!) with just one leg.
He learned how to ride a bicycle and is now training to get a spot on the paralympic cycling team by riding about 200 miles a week. He pedals with just one leg, but uses a prosthetic that attaches to the bike frame to help balance him out.
Beene hopes his story will help inspire others who have lost a limb to reach their goals. His dream is to make it to the Olympics, and he's created a website called OneLegGreg for people to follow him on his journey. At the website, you can also make a donation to help make his dream a reality. He's hoping the donations will help him get a new road bike and pay for coaching and travel expenses.
